A diving manga with hardly any diving in it, carrying one of the highest reader scores in the medium.

The engine is escalation and the timing is close to perfect. A chapter opens on a trivial misunderstanding, adds a witness, adds alcohol, and arrives four pages later at a scene that could not have been predicted from the setup but is retroactively inevitable, and the hit rate across twenty-six volumes stays absurdly high. Yoshioka's art is the underrated half. His reaction faces are drawn with genuine anatomical control rather than as gag shorthand, so a single panel of dawning horror does the work a lesser comedy would spend a page on, and the rare diving sequences are rendered seriously enough to make the contrast land.

Iori is a good comic lead because his dignity is the resource being spent. The honest caveats are large. There is no plot to speak of, the romance has been stalled for years by design, the world is a set of bars and a clubroom, and by the later volumes the formula is visible from a distance. None of that has dented the reader verdict, which puts it alongside the acknowledged classics of the medium rather than below them, and the reason is simply that it is funny far more often than not.
