Wooden Sticks Golf Club Review
Twelve famous holes from around the world reproduced in Uxbridge, which is exactly as strange as it sounds and more fun.

Wooden Sticks is a theme park and a real golf course at once, and the tension is most of its charm. Twelve of its holes recreate famous ones, the island green from Sawgrass, Amen Corner from Augusta, the Road Hole from St Andrews, at close to their true dimensions, and playing them delivers a version of the experience that is either thrilling or faintly absurd depending on the golfer. The replicas are well built and the tribute to Augusta's thirteenth is genuinely good.
The six original holes are competent and forgettable by comparison. Conditioning is very good, with greens kept fast enough to make the replicas honest. The scenery is Uxbridge farmland with the replicas' features imposed on it, which is pleasant and never convincing. The green fee is high for what is, once the novelty passes, a decent parkland course, and that is the value problem. Play it once, with friends, and enjoy the argument about whether it counts.
