Whistle Bear Golf Club Review
Carrick's best inland design outside Muskoka, in a Cambridge field that gave him nothing to work with.

Whistle Bear is proof of what a designer can do with poor land. The site is flat Waterloo County farmland, and Carrick moved enough earth to build a course of rolling fairways, grass faced bunkers, mounding that frames every hole and greens with real contour, in a style somewhere between a links and an American parkland. The result is a strategic course, with holes that reward the right line and punish the wrong one, and a set of par threes that is among the best in the region.
Conditioning is a real strength, with fast greens and firm fairways maintained to a private club's standard. The scenery is the course itself, since there is little around it; a golfer who needs trees and water will find it austere. The green fee is fair for the quality and the club is welcoming to visitors. It is a course that reveals itself over several rounds, and one that repays them.
