Turnberry Golf Club Review
Sixteen par threes on a reclaimed quarry, and the best short-iron education in the west GTA.

An executive course most people underrate because the scorecard says par 56. Carrick and Tyers built this on a spent aggregate pit in 2010 and used the leftover topography properly: 3,408 yards of humped, wind-exposed ground with thick native rough, steep-faced bunkers and green contours borrowed straight from the British Isles. Sixteen par threes sounds monotonous and is not, because they range from a flip wedge to a genuine long iron, and almost every one is defended sideways rather than in front, so the miss you can afford changes hole to hole.
It is the best place in the west end to find out whether your iron game is real. Conditioning is good rather than immaculate, with tee boxes showing wear by August and greens running a shade slow. It walks in well under three hours, which is the whole point of the format. One hole is currently out for reconstruction, so you play seventeen. At forty-five dollars that is still a bargain.
