Nine holes, par 35, 3,388 yards, and the best-conditioned turf per dollar in Durham Region. StoneHenge sits on sand north of Bowmanville, and the soil is not a footnote. It opens weeks before its neighbours, drains through a downpour without leaving a single puddle of casual water, and gives you tight lies all season instead of the mud you fight on clay. The routing takes its cue from highland links: humped fairways, blind-shoulder tee shots, exposed green sites, and bunkers cut into slopes rather than dropped onto flat ground.
Three par threes, two very different par fives and four par fours that each ask something distinct add up to a nine that never repeats itself, which is rarer than it sounds. The greens are firm, quick and true from May through October. It walks in about an hour and forty minutes, and the ninth finishes at a patio worth sitting on. Fifty-six dollars for eighteen holes on surfaces this good is underpricing.
