The quarry lake at the centre of this property is genuinely striking, spring-fed and steep-walled, and every marketing photo the resort has ever taken agrees. The golf wrapped around it is another matter. The twelve holes are less designed than distributed, tee boxes pointed across whatever ground was available, with fairways that neither turn nor tilt with intent and greens that read as circles of shorter grass rather than as targets. Where the lake does come into play the holes gesture at drama, but the shots are awkward rather than strategic, forced carries with no alternative line and no reward for the brave one.

Our rounds found the course in poor keeping throughout: rock-hard bare fairway lies, greens crusted and inconsistent, hazard margins overgrown to the point of ball-eating. The twelve-hole format that works so well elsewhere feels here like a course that ran out of land and ideas at the same time, and the green fee is pitched at courses in a different league of care. The centrepiece deserves better golf around it.
