Eagles Nest Golf Club Review
Doug Carrick built a links on a landfill north of Toronto, and it is the best public course in the region.

Eagles Nest is the rare Canadian course that looks like it belongs on a coast. Carrick shaped a gravel pit into rolling dunes, planted fescue everywhere the fairways were not, and routed holes that use the wind, the ground and the enormous undulating greens the way a proper links does. The par fives are outstanding and the short par fours invite a decision off the tee. Conditioning is consistently excellent, with firm fast fairways and greens that are true and quick, and the course is a real test from the back tees without punishing a sensible player from the front.
The scenery is the drama of the dunes themselves, since there is no water or forest to speak of. The green fee is high for public golf and the pace can be slow with the volume it attracts. It is the round to play once a season, and the course by which the rest of the region's public golf is judged.
