Bowmanville Golf & Country Club Review
A comfortable creekside members' course that plays the same friendly game it has since 1959.

Bowmanville G&CC grew the way small-town courses used to: nine holes carved from the family farm in 1959, nine more added when the first nine paid for them. The seams still show, pleasantly. The original front nine is the keeper, rolling along Bowmanville Creek beneath sixty-year-old hardwoods, with a pair of genuinely good short par 4s where the creek pinches the lay-up and the green sits just far enough uphill to make the wedge honest.
The newer back stretches out across flatter, more open ground and plays longer but plainer. Everything about the operation is family-scale in the best way; the welcome is real, the pace is countryish, and the price sits comfortably in the sixty-dollar band. The course never quite rises above its category, since the bunkering is basic, the greens are mild, and August firmness exposes the irrigation's age. But Durham golfers keep coming back for a reason. It is dependable, unpretentious golf on likeable land, and that is a fair Wednesday anywhere.
