The skating survives the transplant intact; the fourth game's whole reason for existing does not.

The good news first: the handling model that made the previous remake work is untouched, the revert is where it should be, and Foundry and Canada look and feel like the levels people have been describing from memory for two decades. Iron Galaxy clearly cared about the skating. The decision that undoes a lot of that care is structural. The fourth game's defining move was throwing out the run timer for open levels where pros approached you with challenges, and here those levels are reformatted back into two minute score attacks, which is the one change that makes the two halves feel like one product and also erases what made the second half distinctive.

Cut features compound it, with a slimmer creation suite and a smaller online layer than the 2020 remake shipped with. Taken purely as parks to skate, this is excellent and the price is fair. Taken as a preservation of two specific games, it delivers one of them faithfully and rewrites the other into a shape its designers had already rejected.
