A new studio of Witcher veterans swings big with a vampire RPG that writes better than it fights

The Blood of Dawnwalker is the debut of Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by veterans of The Witcher 3, and the lineage is written all over it. You play Coen, caught between human and vampire, and the game builds its best moments on that split: feed and grow stronger but lose yourself, or hold the line and stay weaker but whole. The writing is the standout, dense with choice and consequence and confident enough to invite the Witcher comparisons it keeps drawing, and the plague struck valley it takes place in is a real setting rather than a backdrop.
The seams are the ones a first game usually shows. The combat is solid without being special, the systems can feel like they are still finding their footing, and the polish does not quite match the ambition in every corner. None of it sinks the experience, but it keeps a very good RPG from being a great one.
For a studio's first outing it is a striking arrival, and it sold over a million copies in three days on the strength of that promise. If you value a role playing game for its writing and its choices above its swordplay, Dawnwalker is one of 2026's most interesting, and a name to watch closely for whatever Rebel Wolves does next.
