Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Review
2024Rocksteady StudiosGame
Rocksteady spent nine years turning the studio that defined superhero games into a live service looter, and killed its own characters to do it.

The traversal is the only part that carries the studio's fingerprints. Harley swinging on a stolen grapple, King Shark leaping across whole blocks, Deadshot hovering on jetboots and Boomerang teleporting to his own throw all move differently enough that switching character genuinely changes how you read the city, and Metropolis is rendered with obvious care. Everything built on top is a different studio's game. Combat is a third person shooter with coloured damage numbers and stat rolled guns, so the melee choreography that made this developer's name is simply absent, and the enemy roster is purple aliens in four flavours for thirty hours.
The story kills legacy Justice League characters with a casualness that reads as contempt rather than provocation, and it does it to set up seasonal content. A single player campaign requiring a permanent connection was indefensible. The writing has jokes that land and Kevin Conroy's final performance deserved better than this. A nine year misallocation of one of the best teams in games.
