The best looking Raccoon City ever built, and the least of it you have ever been allowed to walk.

Judged on feel alone this is excellent. The perfect dodge is the best defensive move the series has, Jill controls with real weight, and the opening city block, with its pharmacy and its donut shop and its collapsing tram, is the most convincing Raccoon City anyone has rendered. The RE Engine work is superb, particularly the wet asphalt and the way fire eats through a street. Then it just ends. The clock tower is gone, the park is gone, the gravedigger is gone, whole stretches of the original are compressed into a corridor or a cutscene, and Nemesis is demoted from a roaming threat into a series of scheduled boss fights that stop chasing the moment the scene is over.

Six hours is not automatically a failing, but six hours that pointedly skip the places players remember is a different kind of short. Carlos is a real improvement on the original and Nicholai is better used. It is a good afternoon that should have been a good week.
