The most stylish interface ever put in a video game, and the style is not decoration, it is the argument. Every menu shears, every all-out attack explodes into a comic panel, and the acid red and black palette makes navigating a save screen feel transgressive. Underneath, Atlus built a calendar simulator with real scarcity: an afternoon spent on a confidant is an afternoon not spent in the Palace, and the deadline pressure gives the social sim actual stakes.
Palaces replace the randomized dungeon crawls the series leaned on for years, and they are hand-designed heist spaces with infiltration routes, security meters and stealth that mostly works. The negotiation system revives an old Shin Megami Tensei idea, turning demon recruitment into a personality quiz with teeth. It is far too long, the middle third repeats its own formula, and Morgana ordering you to sleep became a meme for a reason. But the thematic through line, adults abusing power and teenagers refusing it, holds for a hundred hours.
