Two and a half years after the joke landed, the survival game underneath it finally shipped finished.

The reason Palworld reached thirty two million players was never the gun joke. It was that the capture loop and the base loop are the same loop: a Pal caught in the field goes to work at a smelter or a farm, its passive skills decide how well it does the job, and the whole factory is staffed by things you personally hunted down. That is a better feedback circuit than most survival games manage, and 1.0 is where it stops leaking. The World Tree gives the archipelago a destination, the new Pals fill the gaps that made the back half of the tech tree feel unfinished, and the bosses now sit at the end of something.
The designs are still the weak part, close enough to Pokemon that the Tokyo District Court is hearing about it, with evidence scheduled for October 2026. The humour is one note and the writing is thin. Play it for the automation, for servers that hold thirty two people, and for a survival game that lets you skip the tedious part by putting a creature on it. Critics stayed lukewarm across both launches. The players never left.
