Great hero design forever shadowed by the sequel's broken central promise.

Judged strictly as a shooter, Overwatch 2 holds up better than its reputation. The move to 5v5 removed the double-shield stalemates that had calcified the original, new heroes like Kiriko and Junker Queen are among Blizzard's best kit designs, and the art team's character and map work remains elite, easily an A on visuals. The push modes are decent, and free-to-play genuinely revitalized the player base.

The problem is what the sequel was for. Overwatch 2 was sold on a story-driven PvE campaign with hero talent trees; that mode was cancelled after launch, leaving a handful of paid story missions as the only narrative delivery for a universe Blizzard spent years building in cinematics. The D in story grades that gap between promise and product. Add a replaced loot economy whose battle-pass pricing bruised goodwill, and you get a well-made B whose title is the most misleading thing about it.
