More characters, more spectacle, and noticeably less new ground than the first one broke.

The obvious improvement is the cast. Five fighters with genuinely different weight and reach make the mission structure bearable in a way one character could not, and switching from Raikoh's blade to a bow user or a spear changes how you approach the same courtyard. The art has advanced too, with denser environments, better water and demon designs that lean further into the folklore than the original dared.
The destruction remains the hook and remains gorgeous. What has not moved is everything else. Missions still amount to entering an arena, clearing it and leaving, several of them reuse geometry from the first game outright, and the difficulty is tuned around grinding gold to upgrade weapons rather than around learning anything. The story is a collection of legends related in menu text between levels, which suits the tone and gives you nothing to hold. It is a bigger version of a good game that needed a different one.
