NHL 13 is the entry where EA Canada actually rebuilt something. True Performance Skating replaced a decade of skate-on-rails movement with real momentum: explosive first strides, gliding edge work, and defensemen who could finally be beaten wide by speed rather than by animation exploits. It changed how every one-on-one battle read, and the learning curve it imposed was the point. Around that core, GM Connected brought full 750-player online leagues, EA Sports Hockey IQ made AI positioning meaningfully smarter on both sides of the puck, and NHL Moments Live let you replay real season scenarios.
The D in story is simply honest bookkeeping for a sports title: Be a Pro's career mode is a menu with a face, and nothing here pretends otherwise, which is why it barely dents the overall. Presentation coasted on the previous year's package, holding visuals at B. As pure hockey, though, this was the series' high point until the engine change.
