Thirteen years of waiting for worlds that look like the films, and a finale that resolves everything in a rush.

Visually it delivers on a promise made a console generation earlier. Toy Story, Monsters Inc and Corona are rendered close enough to their films that the seams disappear, and the water in the Caribbean chapter is genuinely startling. Combat is spectacular and generous, with attraction flow rides, form changes and a constant firehose of options, though it is also considerably easier than the second game because the game hands you a defensive answer for everything.

The world structure is the first complaint: each Disney chapter is long, self contained and largely disconnected from the plot, so a dozen hours pass without the story advancing. Then the last stretch arrives and resolves thirteen years of accumulated threads in a burst of exposition that assumes you played several handheld and mobile releases. Newcomers will be lost and veterans will feel rushed. There is a warmth here, and the Keyblade Graveyard finale earns some of its emotion. Uneven, beautiful and finally an ending.
