Shared seasons turned a racing game into a place, and Britain into the series' most atmospheric map.

Horizon 4's masterstroke was making the weather everyone's weather. Synchronized seasons rotate weekly for the entire player base, so autumn's russet lanes, frozen Derwentwater, and summer's long gold evenings arrive as shared events, and roads you know change character four times over. It gave a racing game something close to a calendar and a community at once. The compressed Britain is the series' most cohesive map, Edinburgh's cobbles to Lakeland fells, dry-stone walls exploding satisfyingly across the shires, and the horizon-to-horizon drizzle is weirdly the most atmospheric thing Playground has rendered.

The driving keeps the franchise's flattering arcade-sim blend, Team Adventure gave online racing actual structure, and the route creator seeded years of community content. Story remains festival-flavored air, influencer-cheerful and disposable, hence the C in an otherwise strong row. Horizon 5 is bigger and 6 is prettier, but 4's seasonal heartbeat remains the series' single best idea.
