Three years into the revival, the series has settled into what it is: the pageantry game. Dynamic weather changes how a Saturday looks and how the ball behaves, mass substitutions no longer send you into a pause menu, and the quarterback sneak is a small contest rather than a dice roll. Dynasty is where the work went. Athletic director expectations give a coaching job something to fail at, the Dynasty Blueprint puts a multi year plan on screen, and Coach Mode lets you run a programme without taking a snap.
Road to Glory adds tight end, edge rusher and free safety, with Legend Templates for players who would rather not build a prospect from nothing. Team Builder now reaches stadiums and crowds, and 138 teams, North Dakota State and Sacramento State among the new ones, is the deepest roster the series has carried.
Then EA put paid progression into Dynasty and Road to Glory, the two modes people play alone, and pulled it back out after the reaction. Reviews sat in the mid seventies, and the complaint under most of them is that the single player modes keep collecting features and never get finished.
