Crimson Desert is what happens when an engine team runs the whole project. Pearl Abyss's in-house BlackSpace tech is legitimately stunning: seamless continent streaming, weather that shoves you off cliffs, grappling, gliding, and horseback flowing without a loading seam, and boss fights, the White Horn duel especially, that play like physics-driven wrestling matches rather than health-bar erosion. The S for difficulty-to-make recognizes a Korean studio building an engine, a tech stack, and a AAA open world simultaneously.
The game around the tech is less sure of itself. Combat maps dozens of contextual moves onto every button until inputs collide mid-fight, quest design swings from inspired setpieces to chore-chains, and Kliff's mercenary revenge story is delivered in a rush of proper nouns that never earns its melodrama, a C by any fair reading. Pilgrim's Pass and the open zones are dense with lovingly handmade oddity. There is an A game in here; this cut is a B.
