The template: killstreaks, prestige, and All Ghillied Up, in the game every shooter since has been answering.

No shooter of its generation cast a longer shadow. Dropping WWII for a contemporary techno-thriller, Infinity Ward built a campaign of ruthless economy: the cargo-ship prologue, the coup seen from the deposed president's eyes, the nuclear blast that kills your player character mid-game, and All Ghillied Up, still the most imitated stealth mission ever designed. The AC-130 sequence weaponized thermal-camera detachment years before the discourse caught up to what it was saying.
Multiplayer is why gameplay sits at S against an A overall: create-a-class, killstreak rewards, and prestige invented the progression loop that every competitive shooter, in any genre, has been rearranging since 2007. The sixty-frame gunfeel remains the house standard. As a complete package the campaign is short and its villains thin, and the story grade reflects propulsion more than depth, but the mechanical DNA here is simply the most influential of its era. The industry still plays by rules this game wrote.
