Armored Core: For Answer Review
2008FromSoftwareGame
The fastest mech game the studio ever made, hiding a genuinely bleak story under a garage full of spreadsheets.

For Answer is where the series stopped pretending to be about ground combat. Overboost lets a next-generation frame cross an entire map in seconds, and the fights against the enormous mobile fortresses and the rival pilots are conducted at a speed most games would refuse to render. Underneath it sits the garage, which is genuinely a spreadsheet with a paint job: energy output against weight against boost efficiency, and no build that is good at everything.
Getting a machine that suits your hands takes hours, and the game does very little to teach you, which is the honest reason this line stayed niche. The fiction is bleaker than it looks, with a world already ruined and three endings that each cost something irreversible, and the theme written for its signature white machine has outlived the game by two decades in the fandom. Presentation is rough even for its year, with muddy environments and menus that assume you already speak the vocabulary. For people who click with it there is nothing else like it, and the newer entry owes it almost everything.
