The reboot that made these machines fast, and forgot to build a game around the speed.

The quick boost is the headline and it is transformative. Previous Armored Core machines walked and lurched, this one dashes sideways at speed, cancels momentum and closes distance in an instant, and the resulting combat is closer to an aerial duel than a tank battle. Building for that speed means rethinking every assumption about weight and energy the series had trained into you, and the payoff when a build finally clicks is real.

Everything wrapped around it is thin. Missions are short, often over in three or four minutes, and many amount to destroying a stationary objective while a voice comments. The story about a collapsed world run by corporations and the Lynx pilots who fight for them is delivered almost entirely through briefings and never develops a hook. Enemy variety is limited and the difficulty is uneven. The follow up took this foundation and built the game this one wanted to be.
