Alien: Isolation Review
2014Creative AssemblyGame
The only Alien game that understood the assignment, built around one creature that genuinely hunts you for fifteen hours.

Creative Assembly did the thing everyone assumed was impossible, which was to build a horror game around one enemy and make it last fifteen hours. The xenomorph is not on a track. It patrols, reacts to noise, learns which cupboards you favor, and a second layer of the AI quietly nudges it toward your general area, which is why it feels uncanny rather than random. Sevastopol Station is the other triumph, a faithful reconstruction of the 1979 film's chunky analogue future in CRT green and dirty white, and it remains one of the best looking environments anyone has built for a first person game.
The crafting and the save station design put real stakes on every corridor you enter. It is too long by several hours, the human enemies and androids are a weaker distraction, and the difficulty is frequently unfair by design rather than by accident. Opinion was split at launch and the reappraisal has been close to total. Nothing else sustains dread like this.
