2021Anime
The best looking isekai ever made, built around a protagonist it refuses to let you like.

Studio Bind was founded to make this, and it shows in the places other isekai never bother with. The village of Buena has a real geography. Light comes through leaves correctly. Characters hold a pose while the camera attends to something else. When Rudeus first casts water magic in the garden, the scene is animated as a small event rather than a power up, and the show keeps that patience for twenty three episodes.
What it does with the patience is uncomfortable. Rudeus wasted thirty four years and knows it, and the story hands him a second life without handing him a new character. He is clever, hardworking, badly damaged and frequently a lecher, and the series presents all four at once without asking for approval or arranging a redemption. Viewers split hard over this, and the split is the honest response, because the writing is not defending him.
Around him the world is unusually solid: a teleport incident with consequences that last for years, a mercenary economy, a demon continent that takes months to cross. Season two lost some of the visual edge, and season three, which began in July 2026, has restored part of it. The material has always been better than the genre it sits in.
