KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! Review
2016Anime
The isekai power fantasy played entirely as farce, with a party too incompetent to be heroic.

The genre it is mocking had gone stale by 2016 and this is the correction. Kazuma arrives in the standard fantasy world, is offered one companion, chooses badly out of spite, and spends the series broke, sued and doing quests for cabbage money alongside three specialists who each have exactly one usable skill. The comedy works because the incompetence is specific. Aqua is a goddess who cannot help, Megumin can cast a single spell once a day and is unconscious afterwards, and Darkness is a knight whose defensive talent is inseparable from a masochism the show refuses to be coy about.
Studio Deen's animation is loose, cheap and frequently off model, which suits the material better than a polished production would have. The vocal performances carry a great deal, and Kazuma's flat exasperation gives every scene a floor to bounce off. Later seasons repeat their own beats and the plot, such as it is, never becomes interesting. It stays funny anyway, and it remains the standard the genre's parodies are measured against.
